Library Funding
Operating Millage

The voters of the Northville Library District (City of Northville and Northville Township} approved an operating millage of 1 mill in perpetuity in 1994. The effects of the Headlee rollback reduce the amount collected each year that the tax base increases faster than inflation. The maximum authorized millage can only be restored by a vote of the residents. The Northville District Library’s 2008 Operating millage rate is 0.9574 Property Tax accounts for 95% of the Library Budget

Debt Millage
The voters also approved a Bond for five (5) million dollars for the Library Building. The millage rate is calculated each year to produce only the amount needed for Debt payments on the Bonds. Currently the Northville District Library’s debt millage rate is .1980.  The Debt payment will end in 2015.

The Library receives 3% of your local tax dollars.

The Northville Board of Trustees approves a Library Budget each year following a Public Hearing where the Budget is presented and questions answered. The Library’s Fiscal Year begins on December 1 and runs until November 30.
